CLEAN Day 28 : Thriving on the run

Yesterday was a VERY busy day. Thank goodness for Grassroots Market, I was able to get my Morning and Evening Juice fix – both tasty options.

Daily Detox from Grassroots Natural Market

Daily Detox from Grassroots Natural Market

In the morning I had the Daily Detox – I really liked the combination: cucumber, celery, parsley, apple, lime & kale.  I haven’t put lime into my green drinks before, it was a great add on. Marking that down for future recipes.  Then off to the races working on a project for a few hours.

Next my Lunch was from Panera – when you’re out and about sometimes you have to do the very best you can. Their Thai Chicken salad (hold the wontons) is the best option I had for lunch. So I enjoyed it … with the apple side.

Work completed  then it was back home, presto change-o and off to a wedding. OOPS but we still needed to restock the fridge for the rest of our CLEAN and great juices.  Back to Grassroots again for a little shopping and DINNER.

Apple Jack Juice

Toi and I shared another YUMMY and pretty drink the APPLE JACK for dinner. It had apple, lime, ginger & beet and we asked for EXTRA ginger, of course.  Another winner.  Toi thought it was a little sour for her taste, I thought it was perfect.

And thanks to Joanna, we also received a sample of some Roobios Tea – we’ll be trying later.

With our fresh fruit and veggies secured  we were off to the Wedding. The ceremony was lovely. It was on the beach and spirits didn’t dampen, even with a few sprinkles of rain, which actually made it nice and cool. But at the reception was where I was actually a little worried about staying on the CLEAN. I do enjoy some of the family favorites like the famous barbecue meatballs. I spotted the veggies and kept my position strong. My uncle wasn’t able to maneuver the line and asked me fix him a plate, so I went over to fix him a plate — and even managed a good portion of fresh veggies for him. And across the chicken, pork, meatballs, cheese tray, crackers I went, and a strange thing happened – I wasn’t really that interested in the food. We are just a few days from the end of our planned CLEAN detox, but it was important to me to stick with it. After I got him all fixed up, I visited around drank some water and then grabbed a few servings of the cut veggies.  Organic or not a better choice than the meatballs WHOO HOOO.  I even passed the chicken up – since technically I did “eat” at lunch.  I can live with a few cut veggies after my evening juice.

My aunt wanted to know how I liked the food and that she had prepared a few of the things. I told her that I like the cut veggies…she seemed a little sad that I hadn’t enjoyed the prepared food. She replied “what?,  are you on some kind of a diet” I could only grin and say yes ma’am and I’ve dropped 31 pounds. She smiled.

Of course staying CLEAN also meant no wedding cake, either. Even though I was asked to help serve the cake. I am proud to say with more than 50 pieces of cakes served, I didn’t grab a bite.  The funny part was that I realized I had cake icing on my hand and as I raised it to “take a lick” – I instantly caught myself. It felt like a triumph – after all I have eaten a tub of icing for dessert – no cake necessary. I’d would say all in all… it was a CLEAN win.

I love Grassrots and have tried both of those! My husband and I went to Whole foods and everyone is so in love them but really even though much smaller there are healthier things at Grassroots. Some of my produce from whole food on sunday is already rotting (for shame). The hot bar at Whole foods is filled with aweful food wings, mac and cheese? ugh When you want to treat yourself get the Apple Pie Smoothie at Grassroots it has organic apple juice, organic apples and vanilla rice dream icecream enough to make it creamy. It made me not miss the peanut butter shake from the Dreamette and that says A LOT.
