How Can I Be A Hero?

That word hero for me evokes visions of Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., or that fireman who just saved a life. I don’t feel like a hero, I just feel like me.

Recently my friend Becky Lewis nominated me for a local news channels “First Coast Everyday Heroes” for inspiring her to think more about her own health. I am honored to be thought of as a hero in that way, and I do hope that I can reconcile my own standards to feel worthy of such an honor.

I was completely shocked when the reporter from First Coast News called to tell me that they wanted to do a story on the nomination. Really? On Me? Uhhhhh… so I agreed.

It is delightful to know that the choices we’re making are having an positive impact, and I am honored if my voice of public accountability is inspiring to you … thank you for letting us in. Let’s keep going on this journey together and keep making small steps to twist our health into the shape it needs to be.

Imagine my surprise when I am making dinner with the news on in the living room, and I hear the name “Michelle Chance.” I thought, they can’t be talking about Michelle, but let me go see. I then see your interview talking about the changes you had made and the support system you built to support these changes.

Congratulations on your nomination as a hero!
